Director's Notes for
The Servant of Two Masters
The Servant of Two Masters has been one of the most interesting processes to get involved with. Through this process we have given a tall order to everyone involved, as there is much more than just a stage that has to be transformed to 1765 Italy. From an acting perspective the cast as a whole has had to adapt their contemporary theatre skills to work for a whole different style of how to approach a show. Commedia actors would master one role and play that role for the rest of their lives. If that is not difficult to consider as a performer, take the fact that a script for a Commedia dell'arte piece looked more like a synopsis, relying on the ensemble to improvise the dialogue and adapt each show to the specific audience at hand. A large focus on this show has been to create a strong ensemble as the foundation for success within this foreign art form of theatre. This is often taken for granted with most groups and overlooked. However, this cast and crew have created unyielding teamwork and collaboration that has made this a memorable and worthwhile production experience.
From top to bottom, this show and style of theatre was a risk for our company to take. It is because of strong support from many areas that we are able to do this; our school administration, the Catwalk Theatre Guild, dedication of our student body, and the entire Pomona community.
The risk of producing thsi sow has already paid of for Andre' and me. As educators being able to bring a fun and physical art form to light is a great opportunity. I would personally like to thank you for coming out and supporting live theatre. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a unique theatrical experience you may not soon forget.
