Director's Notes for
Run For Your Wife
Producing a play with a specific style is always an exciting and difficult
challenge; farce is no exception. The history of the farce style can be traced
back to the beginnings of theatre in Ancient Greece. Even though life has
changed tremendously since 400 B.C., what audiences find funny has not.
As with any farce, mistaken identity, secrets and moral dilemmas drive the
action of the play. What makes this play even more interesting is looking at
it from a historical perspective. Although for some of the audience
members 1978 may not seem so long ago, where we stand today on how we
view some characters in the play has certainly progressed. For more than 20
years, Run for Your Wife has enjoyed tremendous success in high schools,
colleges and professional theatres all over the world; we are excited to be
producting it tonight.
