Director's Notes for
Out of Order

The Fall 2011 season has been a non-stop, yet exciting adventure for all of us involved with the Catwalk Theatre Company. This is a ride that we all love, as we revel in the opportunity to create moments like tonight for our audience. Out of Order certainly delivers a similar non-stop experience for all of our patrons.

This evening's farce, Out of Order, requires that every actor and technician alike be on point at all times and in rhythm with the comic timing this genre demands. As the play twists and turns with Mr. Willey's escalating antics, the audience takes a journey full of lies, secrets, confusion, and situations that push each character to his or her limit.

On top of these endeavors, it has been a great experience for the students to uncover all of the quirky nuances of the 1980s. The combination of British political humor and British dialect have made this process memorable. As the students studied the complex layers of the script, we have discovered how this show is humorous and engaging to specific audiences. Those who happen to be British and politically aware, as well as anyone who has told a small lie to escape trouble, will appreciate this tale of morality versus the temptation to be corrupted by those charming and in power.

This show brings to light why theatre is an amazing part of our society. As we bring this story to life onstage, we will witness the main character digging a deep hole that all of the characters seem to sink into. The emerging immoral acts are meant to stir conversations about our reality versus what is displayed onstage. In many ways, this conversation is the reason theatre exists and why it has survived and thrived througout history. I welcome you to engage in this conversation as you exit our doors tonight, and allow our community to benefit from the often serious lessons learned through this production, that are displayed with less gravity in a farcical comedy.

Thank you all for your continued support of our students, live theatre, as well as the arts in education. Now, smile, sit back, relax and enjoy the show as the neat and organized world around you twists and turns Out of Order.
