Director's Notes for
Footloose
Will there ever be a generation in which communication between the youth coming of age and their parents is clear and free of
obstruction? There seems to be something sacred about those years we live in our teens. We reached the "age of reason" at
which point we questioned and challenged the ideals and valures which were so painstakingly placed deep in our hearts. While
making our way through our teenage years we held on to those things that gave us comfort; friends, school, social activities
and our first love. How can we help our youth navigate these times" I don't think we're supposed to. I think our job is to
guide them, be supportive and keep them safe as they travel their individual roads. I've enjoyed watching the team effort
these students have put forth as they've traveled toward their common goal. I'm encouraged by how much they have grow as
performers and leaders. What my fellow directors and I have experienced the last three months tells us that this group of
youth has what it takes to succeed in life. This production, as always, is the most rewarding undertaking each year. Thank
you for sharing your children with us, both for this show and every day in class. As always, it's hard work, but it's work it.
