Director's Notes for
All Shook Up
I am delighted to make my Pomona directing debut with a retrospective of 1955.
Book writer, Joe DiPietro, was inspired by William Shakespeare's " Twelfth Night. Although the original was set in a
time of kings and queens, the All Shook Up music can be attributed to a "king" of a different sort; rock and roll's own
Elvis Presley. Blending pop culture with Shakespeare's literary genius has resulted in the fun show of unrequitted love.
It reminds us of the possiblities open to us if we embrace those things that make us unique and special.
A great deal has been asked of these students during this production. They hae kept up their studies, balancing them with a demanding
rehearsal schedule and costume fittings. Some have learned songs, lines, choreography and stage movement. Others have worked tirelessly
on the set and mastered techical elements of the production itself. Each has been exposed to cross-curricular learning in their
studies of the Twelfth Night.
We are a team, committed to excellence.
You have most certainly done your part.
Enjoy the show!
